On the previous Friday, the Second Amendment Law Center, together with a number of noteworthy pro-gun rights organizations such as Gun Owners of America, the Hawaii Rifle Association, California Rifle & Pistol Association, Gun Owners of California, and the Gun Owners Foundation, lodged an amicus (friend of the court) brief in the US District Court in Hawaii. This was in relation to the case of Wolford v. Lopez, contesting Hawaii's newly ratified SB 1230. The fresh legislation practically renders a firearm carry license useless. The brief can be reviewed HERE.
Additionally, the Second Amendment Foundation and the National Association for Gun Rights submitted two further amicus briefs. (Accessible HERE).
These amicus briefs are crucial since case attorneys are prohibited from financing or contributing to the writing of such briefs. Therefore, the Second Amendment Law Center's expertise in gun rights issues is vital in providing support.
Chuck Michel, President & General Counsel of the Second Amendment Law Center, expressed optimism about the support garnered by their amicus campaign for this case. He stated that as these briefs suggest, Hawaii's new stringent law, which nearly voids the use of a firearm carry license, is unconstitutional, especially when viewed in light of the Supreme Court's interpretation in the Bruen case.
In a separate development, the National Shooting Sports Foundation recently filed a suit challenging Hawaii's newly implemented public nuisance law. Unless blocked, this law allows nearly anyone to launch unwarranted legal action against firearm industry members for criminal misuse of guns. The objective of this law is to financially cripple gun retailers and dodge the rulings of the U.S. Supreme Court and Congress, which prevent such private lawsuits. 2ALC is preparing an amicus campaign in support of this lawsuit as well.
You are urged to consider donating to help overturn the SB 1230 ban on licensed public carry. Also, please register at 2ALC.org to stay updated on the progression of this and other similar court cases.
